Where I Stand On The

Issues

Calvert County First!

  • Keeping Big Tech and High Density Out

Calvert County is not the proper place for data centers and high-density development, plain and simple.

I am proud to have led the fight from day one against data center development in Calvert County. When I’m elected, I look forward to continuing to organize and to support community organizations as we hold mega-coprtations accountable and equal. When I’m elected, I will fight like hell for the following actions to ensure that data centers are not built in Calvert County:

    • Extending the moratorium to 24 months
    • Immediately starting countywide environmental studies to inform future decision-making
    • Removing data centers as a permitted use
    • Restoring the Lusby parcel to its original farm-and-forest designation

To fight back against out-of-control high-density development, I will fight for the following:

    • Leveraging the comprehensive plan to slow down development
    • Improve our infrastructure so it can finally support what already exists
    • The full preservation of the town center model
    • Increases to the TDR program to increase the barrier to entry for developers
  • Restoring Fiscal Responsibility

Calvert County has always charted its own path, and right now is not the time to change that. While peer rural counties go against their heritage, I instead fight for a Calvert County that leans into our farm and marine heritage for its economic value. As such, I will fight for:

    • Localizing agricultural and maritime supply chains to reduce costs on local harvesters and increase profit margins, including by encouraging primary and intermediate production of goods in I-1 zoning areas
    • Increasing flexibility for farmers to diversify and integrate other land uses into their existing operations, including event hosting, agritourism, and agrivoltaics
    • Establishing Economic Development liaisons for every business to navigate our complex regulations
    • Giving tax and regulatory relief to small businesses to encourage increased employment
    • Streamlining permitting to protect our environmental and rural charm without excessive burden on homeowners
  • Local Economic Development

Calvert County has always charted its own path, and right now is not the time to change that. While peer rural counties go against their heritage, I instead fight for a Calvert County that leans into our farm and marine heritage for its economic value. As such, I will fight for:

    • Protecting our environment at all costs
    • Localizing agricultural and maritime supply chains to reduce costs on local harvesters and increase profit margins, including by encouraging primary and intermediate production of goods in I-1 zoning areas
    • Increasing flexibility for farmers to diversify and integrate other land uses into their existing operations, including event hosting, agritourism, and agrivoltaics

  • Governmental Reform, Accountability, and Accessibility

The public’s trust in the Calvert County government is at an all-time low. It is past time that the Calvert County government operated in the full public view. The following reforms are necessary to restore your trust:

    • Ban NDA and confidentiality agreements
    • Ban County staff from donating to BOCC political campaigns
    • Create term limits
    • Create a full-time position for an independent inspector general
    • Conduct a full, public report on the data center boondoggle from start to finish, followed by public town halls to gather input and chart the path forward
    • Increase the amount of public notice required for zoning matters
    • Reform county procurement processes to protect taxpayer money and increase access to local businesses

Moving forward, the County government and each commissioner must be more accessible to the community. As your next commissioner, I pledge to do the following while in office to increase your engagement and faith in the role:

    • Host weekly office hours in the county, changing location each week
    • Upload an individual meeting recap after each meeting on my official commissioner page
    • Hosting quarterly town halls in each district to allow for in-person updates to citizens and for citizens to engage in open forum
  • Finishing Outstanding Projects

We have nine million dollars in the bank currently for the construction of the Dominion Regional Park. Rather than stall, or shop the land to data center developers, we need to start the construction of Phase One immediately. It’s been eight years since Dominion donated the land to the county – let’s fight and get the job done.

Other projects that I will fight for include:

    • Necessary school facility upgrades needed to protect academic outcomes
    • St. Leonard Firehouse
    • Solomons Firehouse
    • Southern Calvert County Library
    • CCSO Crime Lab
  • Keeping Young People and Seniors Here

It’s no secret that Calvert County’s Gen Z and Senior population is declining. Rather than accepting this exodus as “the way it is,” we need to incentivize young families and older citizens to stay here. I will fight to:

    • Continue to encourage accessory dwelling unit (ADU) adoption and development to ensure increased housing stock without overdevelopment
    • Leverage the comprehensive plan to incentivize developers to create more starter homes
    • Establish first-time homebuyer tax credits
    • Reduce the tax burden on new small businesses
    • Responsibly increase benefits for public employees and volunteers such as LOPSA
